Manor School - Kensal Rise
Manor School Kensal Rise
Manor School is a large and growing special school located in the London Borough of Brent. We have around 230 pupils across our school community, from Reception to Year 6.
Manor School currently operates across two sites. To support the growing number of local families requiring specialist provision, we will be opening a third site, Manor School Kilburn, in September 2026.
Our Kensal Rise site is located on Chamberlayne Road in Kensal Rise, with access to the school via the entrance on Okehampton Road. The Manor School Early Years Centre (MSEYC) is situated approximately two miles away on Bridge Road (NW10). When it opens, Manor School Kilburn will be around 1.5 miles away on Canterbury Road (NW6).
The Kensal Rise site is the largest of our school locations and currently supports approximately 190 pupils in twenty-two classes spanning Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
The main school building dates back to 1902 and is an Edwardian building arranged across three floors, providing a range of classrooms and specialist learning spaces. Key Stage 1 classes are named after flowers and Key Stage 2 classes are named after trees.
The site benefits from extensive outdoor space and a range of specialist learning environments that support the delivery of our curriculum. These spaces provide opportunities for pupils to engage in practical, creative and independence-based learning experiences.
We are also fortunate to have a heated swimming pool on site. This allows pupils from other Manor School sites to access swimming regularly as part of the curriculum.
Facilities at Kensal Rise include:
- three playgrounds
- an outdoor multi use games area (MUGA)
- dedicated classrooms and learning spaces
- two halls and a designated dining space
- staff offices and support areas
- a library
- specialist Art, Music and Life Skills rooms
- a heated swimming pool
Every pupil at Manor School has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Most of our pupils, approximately 85 percent, have a diagnosis of autism. The school supports pupils with a wide range of learning needs and we have three clearly defined provision pathways: Rosemary, Lavender and Thyme.
Class sizes typically range from seven to ten pupils. The ratio of pupils to adults depends on the needs of the group and on the provision pathway the class belongs to.
Alongside developing academic knowledge and skills, there is a strong focus on functional communication, independence and social development.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced and designed to help pupils build knowledge, skills and vocabulary over time so that they know more, remember more and can do more.
Pupils at both primary sites follow an adapted version of the National Curriculum. The curriculum is broad and balanced and pupils across all pathways access subjects including Art, Music, PE and Life Skills.

Personal development is a key priority at Manor School. Pupils are encouraged to share their views, develop confidence and take an active role in school life through opportunities such as pupil voice activities, class discussions and whole school initiatives.
Part of the Manor School community
The Kensal Rise site plays an important role within the wider Manor School community. As the longest established site, it is home to a number of specialist facilities and learning spaces that are used across the school.
Pupils from other Manor School sites regularly access the Kensal Rise facilities as part of their curriculum, ensuring that all pupils benefit from shared expertise, resources and opportunities while remaining part of a consistent Manor School approach to learning, care and support.
School Street Scheme
During term time, part of Okehampton Road operates as a School Street to help create a safer and calmer environment for pupils and families at the beginning and end of the school day.
The Kings Parade section of Okehampton Road is restricted to registered vehicles only between 8:30 and 9:30 and 14:30 and 15:30.
The scheme is CCTV enforced, and vehicles that are not registered may be issued with a fine by the council if they enter the restricted section of the road during these times.
