Job Title: Playground Lead

Salary: Grade 1-3 (£21,228 – £21,783 (FTE) Plus SEN Allowance £1,347 (FTE) Actual salary £4,059 including SEN Allowance.

Hours: Term time only, 7.5 hours per week (Monday- Friday 12-1:30 pm)

Playground leader needed to ensure a variety of exciting and engaging play opportunities are  available to all our the pupils in our Specialist setting   

We are a special needs primary school, and our pupils have a wide range of skills and abilities. We have an Ofsted rating of Outstanding 2020 and in 2019 we were awarded “School of the Year”. We champion each child’s unique potential, and aim to ensure that each child has opportunities to thrive through learning, playing, and engagement.

As playground leader, you will be responsible for:

  • Implementing play activities and games that promote engagement and the development of play skills in the playground.
  • Creating opportunities in play for learning and developing social skills.
  • Creating opportunities for children to practise and develop academic knowledge and skills, including numeracy (E.g. counting).
  • Ensuring play opportunities are available to all children, including those with complex needs and communication difficulties.
  • Maintaining resources for group play activities and games, e.g. removing broken equipment and requesting new resources.

You will have the opportunity to work with children with a range of needs and abilities, creating and implementing exciting ideas to engage all children in play. The school will offer training and support as needed, in areas such as communication and behaviour. You will work as part of a team of playground staff, ensuring all children are safe and engaged.

The Person:

We are looking for someone who is imaginative and fun, who is confident in creating opportunities for engaging play activities. The ideal candidate will have experience in working with children, and in engaging children of all abilities in play. They will be able to form positive relationships with pupils, and work as part of a staff team. They will understand that our pupils have a variety of communication and behavioural needs, and be adaptable in order to support all pupils.
